KABUL (Pajhwok): Top Turkish and Qatari diplomats have conferred on the current situation in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan, a media report said on Monday.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani discussed Afghanistan and Kazakhstan in a phone call on Sunday.
“The latest developments in Afghanistan and Kazakhstan were discussed,” Daily Saba quoted a Turkish foreign ministry statement as saying.
With clashes ongoing in different areas of Kazakhstan, dozens of protesters and at least 12 security personnel have died in Almaty.
Turkey and Qatar have been working together to reopen the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul for international flights.
Ankara has offered technical and security assistance to operationalise the Kabul airport, a necessary step to ensure an uninterrupted supply of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
Turkey’s embassy in Kabul remains functional after the pullout of Western countries following the Taliban takeover of the country in August last year.
