KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai has congratulated the runner-up of Afghan girls’ robotics team and hoped that the doors of all girls schools would be reopened with the beginning of new academic year in the country.

The Afghan girls’ robotics team won second position by programing an intelligence traffic system, among 88 countries in PCB The Change, a global competition.

The competition was launched online two months ago and the results were announced last Friday. Countries from US, Europe and Asia participated in the competition.

SamyaFaroqi, the captain of Afghan girls’ robotics team, says they have been able to achieve this position by building an intelligent traffic system which they displayed in the competition.

“An intelligent traffic system in Afghanistan can, in addition to controlling traffic flow, intelligently record speeding and traffic violations and transfer the collected data to the central system,” she added.

She said that they created the program considering high traffic irregularities in Afghanistan.

Hamid Karzai today congratulated the runner-up Afghan girls’ robotics team and said that the position the team had won was a result of their hard work and talent.

Karzai hoped that doors of all girls’schools will be opened all over the country which would pave ground for the development of talents of both boys and girls in the new academic year.

Around 10 members of the Afghan robotics team left the country after the fall of the previous regime.

The team members, currently seeking refuge in Canada, are joined by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for encouraging and supporting them.
