KABUL (Pajhwok): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet Afghan Sikh and Hindu community leaders and members, says a media report.

Following the Taliban’s takeover in last August, India evacuated hundreds of citizens and Afghan minority community members from Afghanistan.

Delhi-based Sikh group leaders like Puneet Singh Chandok have been highlighting the problems faced by the Afghan minority community in India.

Chandhok, president of the Indian World Forum, in a letter to Modi, stressed Indian citizenship for Afghan minority members, NDTV reported.

He also called for the issuance of Indian visas to the Afghan Sikhs and Hindus, as well as the maintenance of Gurudwaras and temples in the war-torn country.

The letter reads: “The government of India may consider and set up a single-window facility for Afghan minorities to process their applications” for citizenship.

Chandhok also proposed the recruitment of Afghan minority members in to the Indian armed forces.

“Some kind of announcement could be made after the meeting which is being scheduled (between Modi and leaders of Afghan Sikhs and Hindus),” the channel said.
