Malaysia promises 100 scholarships for Afghan students

KABUL (Pajhwok): A Malaysian delegation visiting capital Kabul has pledged to cooperate with Afghanistan in various fields and offered 100 scholarships to Afghan students.

A statement from the Ministry of Higher Education received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that acting higher education minister, Mulavi Abdul BaqiHaqqani, met with Malaysia’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan on Tuesday.

Haqqani during the meeting said that the war-torn Afghanistan needs to be rehabilitated and developed which was possible through quality education.

The statement quoted Haqqani as calling on foreign countries to cooperate with Afghanistan in training the Afghan younger generation, enhancing the skills of teachers and providing scholarships to students.

Malaysia is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in all fields and will assist the country in education, humanitarian, health and other areas in the near future, the statement quoted Malaysian envoy as saying.

“One of the purposes of our visit to Afghanistan is to identify priorities and continue to work together,” he said.

The Ministry of Higher Education said that a representative of Albukhary International University of Malaysia in the meeting promised to provide 100 scholarships to Afghan students.
