US to lift curbs, release Afghan assets, MoF hopes

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan has welcomed the Biden administration’s new move to facilitate trade with Afghanistan.

On Friday, the US Treasury Department issued General License No. 20, allowing transactions with Afghan governing institutions, including the central bank.

In response, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) in Kabul welcomed the Treasury Department’s action. It hoped the US would lift all sanctions on Afghanistan.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry hailed the issuance of the fresh licence it a positive change.by the US administration as a positive change.

The ministry expressed optimism that the US would provide the war-hit nation with more facilities and release frozen funds of Da Afghanistan Bank.

The statement added the licence allowed Interaction and cooperation with all government departments and bank transfers from all countries to Afghanistan and vice versa.
