KABUL (Pajhwok): A government official on Tuesday said the International Women’s Day was a great opportunity for Afghan women to demand their sharia rights and Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was committed to granting all these rights to the Afghan women.

March 8 is International Women’s Day, which is celebrated every year in Afghanistan and most countries around the world.

ZabihullahMujahid, a government spokesman in a tweet today, said “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is committed to upholding the sharia rights of all Afghan women.”

“International Women’s Day is a great opportunity for our Afghan women to demand their legitimate rights. We protect and defend the rights of our Afghan women, God willing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, former chairman of the High Council of National Reconciliation (HCNR), tweeted: “Happy International Women’s Day  to all women, especially to Afghanistan’s brave women & girls‌ who have sacrificed so much over the years & are an important part of our Islamic & national identity.”

“We recognise those sacrifices & support our sisters for their legitimate & God-given rights,” he said.
