KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai has acknowledged that he and former Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Dr. Abdullah Abdullah are banned from traveling abroad.

Most government officials, including former President Ashraf Ghani, fled the country when the Taliban reached the entrances of Kabul but Abdullah and Karzai stayed in the country.

In his interview with the Iranian Al-Alam News Network, Karzai acknowledged the ban on his and Abdullah trips to foreign countries.

He said: “There were some problems for foreign trips of mine and Dr. Abdullah that we have had together. I hope problems with our trips would be removed but we are free inside Afghanistan. We can go everywhere in Kabul and Afghanistan. Me and Abdullah hold meetings together and can go freely everywhere we want.”

He said: “I hope that Afghanistan will soon have a government in which everyone could see themselves.”

Government sources have not spoken about the ban on Karzai’s and Abdullah foreign trips.
