TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Poverty and unemployment has increased in northern Takhar province due to the halt of operation by cooperative organization, an official said on Friday.
Takhar Work and Social Affairs Director Mullah Saifullah Mubarez told Pajhwok Afghan News that local authorities strived to create employment opportunities for people.
He said some NGOs have stopped their operation and cooperation with the Department of Work and Social Affairs regarding poverty eradication.
Mullah Mubarez added people in Takhar were in terrible economic situation and they daily received tens of application for economic support.
He asked NGOs to resume their work in the province without any hesitation in order to resolve the problems faced by people.
Mirwais, the resident of Warsaj district, is searching for work in Taloqan City. “Three times I went to Iran to earn Halal food but border security forces of Iran forced him to go back.”
UNHCR Representative Naveed said national and international NGOs have started operation in Takhar and efforts were underway to expand them.
