KABUL (Pajhwok): The cabinet on Thursday stressed prevention of high spending by government agencies and instructed the Economic Commission to attract domestic and foreign investment for the country’s economic growth.

A statement from the government stated, “A meeting of the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate was held in Kandahar province on March 19 chaired by Amir al-Mu’minin which continued for three days.”

The source said that it was decided in the meeting that the government should avoid unnecessary spending and officials concerned should collect Zakat and Ushr.

The statement said that Sheikh HabibullahAkhundzada, the leader of the Islamic Emirate, said in the meeting that every Afghan woman and man would be given salaries if there is a possibility. “Because we understand the situation of our helpless people, but as the economy of the Islamic Emirate is still weak, the nation should support their government,” Akhundzada was quoted as saying.

Without giving details, the statement said that important decisions were made in the meeting about laws, practices, interactions with the people and finding solutions to economic problems.

The meeting also made some important decisions regarding the collection and treatment of drug addicts, prevention of sale and purchase of narcotics in the country and a number of other important issues, the statement said.

Economic Commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar Akhund was directed to attract domestic and foreign investment for the economic development of the country, to generate electricity, build roads and ensure proper mining, the source said.

The source said that the commission should also help facilitate implementation of all large and small economic projects and programs.

MulaviAbdul Salam Hanafi, head of Administrative Commission, was directed to take necessary steps to reform the administrative systems and adress problems in the financial and other sectors, the source said.

The meeting was attended by prime minister and his deputies, ministers of social affairs, education, mines and petroleum, agriculture, public health, commerce and aviation and heads of some other government organs.
