ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of Gambir and Katar villages in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province are still using animals for transportation because no road had been built there over the years.
Mohammad Ameer, a resident of Gambir village, complained they had to walk on the mountainous terrain or use animals to travel from one place to another.
“Thousands of people live in Gambir and Katar areas but they don’t have roads. They are still reliant on animals and other means of travel,” he grumbled.
Zakirullah, who belongs to Akasoz locality, deplored: “Due to the absence of a proper road, critical patients die before they could reach hospital.”
He confirmed: “We take our patients on animals or on our shoulders to the doctor and most of the time they die on the way to hospital.”
Maulvi Habib, deputy spokesman for the Kunar governor, acknowledged no uplift project had been implemented in Gambir and Katar areas.
He promised work on the construction of an 18 kilometres road between the Watapur district centre and Garogh Valley would be completed in near future.
He revealed different development plans had been shared with the government regarding the implementation of projects, including roads.
