Bennett appointed UN special rapporteur on rights situation in Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): The UNHRC has appointed Richard Bennett as a special Rapporteur on human rights situation in Afghanistan.

On his twitter handle Bennett wrote: “I am honoured to be entrusted by the HRC with this new mandate as Special Rapporteur on the situation of #HumanRights in #Afghanistan and committed to working for the human rights of Afghan women, men & children by amplifying their voices and engaging with all stakeholders.”

The appointment of Bennet comes as UN and other western nations often expressed concern over women and girls rights situation in Afghanistan.

UN Mission in Afghanistan on its twitter handle wrote: “UNAMA and its Human Rights team look forward to working together with @SR_AfghanistanRichard Bennett on promoting the fundamental rights of Afghans.”
