Once a journalist, Marzia creates tailoring job for 100 women

KABUL (Pajhwok): A female journalist, who started her own business three years ago, has now hired 100 women in a clothing shop where she also provides tailoring classes.

MarziaHafizi, who has worked as news and political programs presenter at Tolo News for the last 12 years, has now opened a men’s and women’s clothing shop in capital Kabul.

During an interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, she said her shop was closed for around three to four months after the regime change in the country on August 15 last year.

She said that like any other Afghan, political changes in the country also affected her, but she resumed her business with a strong intention.

“I started business three years ago, I made a lot of efforts to start the business, I launched it because I was interested in it and because it was the need of people,” she said.

About her production, she said that her shop initially produced women’s clothes but later they started formal and informal men’s clothes and handbags.

She added that before the fall of the previous regime, on August 15 last year, she had a good income and her business was improving with each passing day, but after political changes, her workshop was shut for around four months and some of her workers left.

Hafizi said that 41 women were working with her before the fall of the previous government while the number of her workers and trainees now reached 100.

However, she said that she lost some of her customers after political changes in the country due to people’s economic problems.

“The current problem is that transport routes are closed, a few routes that are open are costly, the clothes take up to 20 days to reach the country, previously raw materials were very cheap but now raw material prices have increased, sometimes we run out of raw materials,” she said.

Khadijah, a law student at a private university, told Pajhwok that she was attending Hafizi’sshop for learning since last few days.

She said that they were given practical and theoretical training in embroidery, cutting and sewing in the shop.She said that she could both learn to work and earn an income to meet her educational needs.
