TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The Revenue Department in northern Takhar province says it has collected more than 233 million afghanis in the past eight months in revenue — 54 percent up compared to last year’s returns.
Maulvi Mohammad Noor Haqjoo, director of revenue department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the revenue was collected under the Islamic Emirate government and handed over to the government’s treasury.
According to Haqjoo, most of the revenue was collected from the departments of passport and mine in the past eight months.
Haqjoo called the collection of taxes as basis for the country’s economic growth and stressed that the people must cooperate with government in payment of taxes.
He added based on their evaluation, the revenue collection surged by 54 percent compared to last year.
Meanwhile, the residents of Takhar also called paying taxes as vital for the country’s economy.
Shabbir Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Taloqan city, said he was paying his tax every year. “Paying taxes makes the government to trust people the most,” he says.
Shabbir Ahmad called on other people to pay their taxes in timely manner.
