KABUL (Pajhwok): China has questioned America’s claims about democracy and human rights, asking the Biden administration to lift its illegal freeze on the assets of the Afghan central bank.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin, addressing a regular news briefing, alleged the 20-year US campaign in Afghanistan had killed 174,000 Afghans, including over 30,000 civilians.
About one-third of Afghans turned into refugees and more than half of them faced extreme hunger during the time, leading to a grave humanitarian crisis, Wang was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.
In the end, he noted, the US not only walked away, but also blocked the money that the Afghan people were depending on for their survival.
“This has fully exposed the barbarity and cruelty of the so-called rules-based international order of the United States,” he insisted.
He reiterated the US should immediately lift its illegal freeze on the assets of the Afghan central bank and compensate the Afghan people for their lost 20 years.
