3,600 needy Takhar families receive food, cash aid

TALOQAN (Pajhwok): The Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department of northern Takhar province on Monday said that 3,600 needy families received food and cash aid in the Yangi Qala and Khwaja Bahauddin districts of the province.

Samiullah Samim, Takhar Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the World Food Program (WFP) distributed the aid which included flour, cooking oil and peas, to 3,000 needy families in Yangi Qala district in coordination with his department.

Samim said another 600 poor families were distributed cash aid in Khwaja Bahauddin district by Concern Worldwide, Ireland’s largest aid humanitarian agency.

He said that each family received10,600 afghanis cash which was distributed on Sunday.

Families who benefited from the aid welcomed the assistance.

Waseem, a resident of Yangi Qala district who received the assistance, said he was struggling with economic problems and could hardly provide food for his family, but he was happy after receiving the assistance from World Food Program.

Anwarul Haq is a resident of Khwaja Bahauddin district of Takhar who received 10,600 afghanis in cash assistance from Concern Worldwide.

He said that he plans to use the money to build a poultry farm to support his family of five members.

Recent political changes have created economic problems for many people around the country.
