FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Some residents of Ferozkoh, capital of western Ghor province, grumble about the increasing circulation of old banknotes in the market and banks.
As the use of worn-out banknotes surges, they say, residents have to encounter problems in transactions.
Mohammad Ewaz, 26, who came to Ferozkoh for shopping, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “I want to buy a bag of rice but the banknotes I have are old and shopkeepers are reluctant to accept them.”
One shopkeeper says: “The banknotes are torn, old and some have writings on them.” All banks in the city issue old notes to the people.
Juma Khan, another shopkeeper, said: “We have toffs with customers daily on the issue of old banknotes. Fake notes are also circulating in the market and we could not take the risk to sell our items in return for fake or old banknotes.”
But Abdul Hameed Ghafoori, a moneychanger, says they would accept old banknotes if Da Afghanistan Bank takes them.
