KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Representatives of a number of local media outlets in northern Kunduz province are concerned about their economic challenges, saying many of their employees have left their jobs over the last few months due to lack of salary.
They say that they would close their offices if their problems are not addressed.
However, local officials in Kunduz say they would respond to problems of the local media in the province.
SamiullahQuraishi, head of a local television channel in Kunduz, said that for several months, their broadcasts had been suspended due to lack of facilities and that many of their staff members had resigned. He said that if they were not supported, they would have no choice but to shut their offices.
“Before the regime change in the country, we had about 30 employees, but unfortunately after the collapse of the former government, our TV channel, Roshani, that was damaged and encountered technical problems, is unable to resume broadcasting, we no longer have staff members which we had before, media outlets face a lot of problems, they may be collapsed if not supported,” he said.
Many other media outlets also suffer from similar problems in Kunduz.
Mohammad KamelRahmani, head of KhavarTV channel, said,”The problem we face is lack of advertisements, we do not have projects which we had in the past, we continue our broadcasts for a limited time in a day, we want to be supported so to be able to continue our publications.”
However, MatiullahRouhani, Kunduz information and culture director, stressed that the challenges the media outlets face in Kunduz would be resolved.
“We had meetings with media outlets facing financial problems, we talked with government organs to work with these media outlets in the field of commercial advertising and payment of electricity bills in installments,” he said.
Eight of total 30 media outlets including television channels, radio stations and newspapers, in Kunduz have stopped their activities due to economic problems.
