KABUL (Pajhwok): A peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is in the interest of the region and international the community, say top regional security officials.

At the end of the Fourth Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan in Dushanbe, participants underlined unhindered access for the Afghan people to humanitarian aid.

National security advisers and secretaries from China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan attended the meeting.

In a joint statement, the participants asked those responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan to honour their commitments to help restore the country’s economic growth.

According to TASS news agency, the meeting urged the Afghan government to respect international law and its commitments under bilateral and multilateral agreements.

They underlined non-interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, suggesting the development of mechanisms for lasting peace by the Afghan nation itself.

“All sides should maintain dialogue and communication with Afghanistan and urge the country to create an inclusive political system, to run a consistent and moderate domestic and foreign policy course, and to develop friendly ties with all nations, in particular in the region.”

They hailed Tajikistan’s offer to provide logistical infrastructure, including for the delivery of humanitarian supplies to the Afghans.

The participants also supported the use of a multifunctional international transport hub in Termez, Uzbekistan, for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The meeting stressed the role of the UN and the international community in providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

The security officials also commended Tajikistan’s initiative to create a security belt around Afghanistan, and welcomed the ‘Tunxi Initiative’ of Afghanistan’s neighbours to support economic reconstruction.

They also praised the Moscow format on Afghanistan, the extended Troika (Russia, the United States, China and Pakistan), the SCO-Afghanistan contact group and other mechanisms for resolving the situation in Afghanistan.
