820 needy families distributed cash aid in Zabul

QALAT (Pajhwok): The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) distributed cash assistance amounting to $330,000 to more than 820 displaced families in southern Zabul province.

Engineer Abdul Khaliq Akakhel, Wadan NGO provincial deputy head, told Pajhwok Afghan News that their organization distributed the aid among deserving families.

"About 820 families received the cash assistance today, with each family receiving between $400 and $420," he said.

Rozi Khan, who received the aid, said: "Today I received $420 from UNHCR, which will solve my economic problems for a while, but it is not a permanent solution. He called on charities to do more to help the poor like him.

Maulvi Hamdullah Samim, Zabul's director of refugee affairs, said the aid would resolve the problems of displaced and poor families to some extent. He said residents of the province, who had been hit by drought and past wars, needed more help.

He called on the aid agencies and foundations to increase their assistance to the displaced and poor families in the province.
