PARON (Pajhwok): The Education Department of eastern Nuristan province has dismissed nearly 50 teachers and other staff over absenteeism during an assessment.
Maulvi Taj Mohammad Mutmain, director of education, told Pajhwok Afghan News he closely assessed and evaluated the education situation in Kamdesh, Bargi Matal, Doab, Norgram and Mandol districts.
He said after the assessment 50 teachers and employees who were found absent without cause for months were fired.
According to him, the process to return salaries from the dismissed individuals is underway and the money will be submitted to the government treasury.
He said currently 214 schools existed in Nuristan and 60 of them had buildings and the rest were without proper buildings.
Mohammad Rassoul, a resident of Mandol district, called the dismissals of absent teachers a positive step but said the Education Ministry and aid giving agencies must address problems including lack of school buildings, professional teachers, and lack of textbooks.
Abdul Qader, is one of the dismissed teachers in Doab district, claimed he had been teaching since 1384 solar year and came to work responsibly every day, but still he was fired.
He said the Education Department’s decision was not honest and he would move the central government in this regard.
