PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The government of Pakistan on Wednesday extended condolences and sympathies over the loss of hundreds of lives and extensive damage to property in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stood with Afghan brothers and sisters in this difficult time. He promised providing all possible assistance to the Afghans.

President Arif Alvi also expressed his sympathies with the deceased and the injured. “Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan,” the president said.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office said: “The people of Pakistan stand in strong solidarity with their Afghan brethren in this difficult time.”

A statement from FO said: ‘We have no doubt that the brotherly Afghan people will overcome the effects of this natural calamity with their characteristic resilience.”

Pakistani authorities and institutions were coordinating with relevant Afghan institutions to extend assistance in the affected areas, the statement added.

Separately, former prime minister Imran Khan said he had asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to facilitate the provision of all medical assistance to Afghanistan.
