Fuel prices jump about 9 percent this week in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Fuel prices recorded a nine percent increase in Kabul despite a 10 percent decrease in their rates in the global market compared to the past two weeks.

The prices of Indian sugar, Malaysian cooking oil, and Arabic gold decreased in Kabul but fuel prices show an increase, market sources said on Saturday.

A worker of the Ahmadyar Group of pump stations said the price of one litre of petrol increased from 88afs to 95afs and the price of diesel jumped from 110afs to 127afs this week, compared to their prices in past two weeks.

Mohammad Sharif, a gas seller in Kalola Pushta area, said the price of one kilogram of the commodity increased from 68afs to 76afs.

According to the Oil Price website, the fuel prices around the globe decreased this week compared to the past two weeks.

The website said two weeks back the price of one barrel of oil was $108 but this decreased to $97, which shows a 10 percent decrease.

Prices of Indian sugar and Malaysian cooking oil decreased.

Zmarai Safi, head of Food Traders Union, said the price of a 49 kilograms sack of Indian sugar decreased from 3,400afs to 3,300afs and the rate of a 16-litre tin of Malaysian cooking oil decreased from 2,900afs to 2,600afs.

But he said the prices of other items remained unchanged as 49 kilograms of Kazakhstani flour priced at 2,500afs, 24.5 kilograms of Pakistani rice 3,000afs, one-kilogram African black tea 400afs and the same quantity of Indonesian tea was sold for 350afs.

Hamid Sofizada, a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh locality, said the rate of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakhstani flour accounted for 2,550afs, 24.5 kilograms of rice 3,050afs, 49-kilogram Indian sugar 3,350afs, 16-liter Malaysian cooking oil 2,650afs, one-kilogram of Indonesian green tea at 400afs and the same quantity of African Black tea at 450afs.

Arabic gold price decreased

Mohammad Javid, a jeweler in the Lycee Maryam market, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold went down from 4,400 afs to 4,300afs. But one gram of the Russian variety was sold for 3,400afs, the same price as last week.

Haji Hussain, a moneychanger, said one US dollar accounted for 88.40 afs while 1,000 Pakistani rupees were exchanged for 410afs on Saturday.
