SHARANA (Pajhwok): Ten people were injured and taken to hospital after an earthquake jolted southeastern Paktika province on Monday, officials said.
According to reports, the tremors were felt in Paktika, Khost and Nangarhar provinces today at 5pm.
Deputy Director of Paktika Public Health Department, Dr. Mohammad Yaqub Patmal, told Pajhwok Afghan News that according to preliminary information, seven people were injured in the latest earthquake in Giyan district and they have been transferred to health centers.
He added some houses which were damaged in the previous quake collapsed as a result of the new earthquake.
However, Information and Culture director Mohammad Amin Huzaifa put the number of injured people at 10 in Giyan district.
According to officials, no one died in the latest earthquake.
A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded in Afghanistan on Monday evening, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake happened at 16:52 with its epicenter 49 kilometers west-southwest of eastern Khost province. Its depth was reported to be 10 kilometers.
About a month ago, a powerful earthquake killed and wounded 2500 people in Giyan and Barmal districts of Paktika. Hundreds of houses were destroyed in the quake.
