HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Thousands of tourists visited historical sites in western Herat province last week, officials said.
Wahidulah Sultani, the director of tourism of Herat province, told Pajhwok Afghan News that during the last week 25,000 tourists visited the historical mosque while 24,000 more tourists visited Ikhtiaruddin Citadel, the minarets and other famous heritage sites of Herat province.
Experts say historical monuments of Herat province are very important for tourism and can play a vital role in the economic growth of the city.
MaulanaNaeemulhaqHaqqani, the director of information and culture, said the local administration was trying to repair historical sites and monuments to attract national and international tourists.
He added that Herat province has more than 800 historical sites
