GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Recent torrential rainfall has damaged some parts of historic Bala Hisar in southeastern Paktika province, according to local youth and culturists on Wednesday.
Mohammad Sharif Salik, a local cultural activist, said: “Recent rainfall damaged historic Bala Hisar and government should pay attention to its protection and rehabilitation.”
There is no proper system where water from inside the Bala Hisat building could go out and it was damaging the building walls.
Shakirullah Elham, a civil society activist, said some parts of Bala Hisar were damaged in the past and some were damaged by recent rainfall.
Local officials have acknowledged that recent rainfall had damaged parts of the historic Bala Hisar.
Cultural Affairs Director Khaliqyar Ahmadzai said: “We visited the Bala Hisar building and inspect its different parts, it need to care and urgent steps should be taken.”
He said the matter had been shared with the Ministry of Information and waiting for their response.
