KABUL (Pajhwok): One soldier has been killed and another wounded in cross-border fire by Iranian forces in southeastern Nimroz province.

Iranian border forces fired at an Afghan patrol before firing off heavy artillery on Sunday, the Nimroz Information and Culture Department said.

A statement from the department confirmed: “One of our border force members has been martyred and another wounded.”

The situation returned to normal and there is no tension now, according to the statement, which said the Afghan forces did not respond to the attack.

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency quoted Nimroz police spokesman Bahram Haqmal as saying: “We have one killed and one wounded.”

According to Iran’s Fars news agency Maysam Barazandeh, the governor of the Iranian border area of Hirmand, said there were no casualties on the Iranian side.
