HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): They mayor of Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, has announced the execution of 54 infrastructure and decorative projects this year.
Speaking exclusively to Pajhwok Afghan News, Hayatullah Mohajir Farahi said: “Technical work on 32 projects has already been completed and practical work on 15 of them launched.”
He said funds for the 54 projects had been provided from the municipality budget.
Meanwhile, some residents of Herat City expressed satisfaction with the performance of the municipality. The city had been spruced up, they acknowledged.
They confirmed there had been an unprecedented improvement in the performance of the municipality — a fact acknowledged by social media activists.
Abdul Rahim, a resident of Herat City, said: “The Municipality’s performance has improved compared to the past.”
He hailed municipality’s efficiency as admirable, noting a positive change that has been brought to the western city in a short period of time.
Improving the streetlight system, construction of bus stops and roads, as well as the inauguration of several other schemes are among the municipality’s achievements.
Abdul Rahim asked the municipality administration to identify a separate place for vendors, whose presence is seen behind traffic congestion in the provincial capital.
He also demanded the eradication of noise pollution to ensure comfort and calm in the city.
Civil society activist Haroon Basharmal also hailed the markedly improved performance of the municipality.
He suggested economists and professionals specialising in infrastructure development should present their plans to the municipality for the beautification of the city.
The activist urged city inhabitants to comply with rules and regulations in addition to following urban life principles. He asked the people to join for the cleanliness of their city.
