GARDIZ (Pajhwok): Nearly 1,000 cows have died from a lumpy skin disease in southeastern Paktia province recently, an official said on Thursday.
Agriculture Director Mawlavi Abdul Rauof Saeed told Pajhwok Afghan lumpy skin disease characterized by fever, enlarged superficial lymph nodes and multiple nodules on the skin.
He added that some veterinarians have been sent to the affected districts to vaccinate the cattle against the disease.
Saeed added that the meat of such cows is suitable for eating but the people should avoid eating it for precautionary reasons.
Local residents have also complained against the outbreak of animals skin disease.
Nik Mohammad, the resident of Paktia province told Pajhwok: “The disease has been spreading in our areas since a month and many cows died as result”.
He added the residents have prescribed and used different medicines which did not give any positive result.
At mean time the officials of municipality have advised the people to stop eating the meat of cows and bulls infected by diseases.
