NEILI (Pajhwok): A physician in the Provincial Hospital of Central Daikundi province donates 10,000 afs from his salary each month to needy people.
Dr. Taj Mohammad Iftikhar said he received over 30,000 afs monthly. “Each month I donate 10,000 afs to less fortunate persons and I am doing this from the past four months,” he added.
He said his aim was to support less fortunate persons and encourage the culture of helping others in society.
He said in current circumstances, the people of Afghanistan faced with hunger, poverty and other problems. Some families even did not have bread to eat.
People should not store their cash and distribute some amount among less fortunate persons in the society, he added.
According to Dr. Iftikhar, helping destitute persons is a humanitarian and religious duty and especially in existing circumstances.
“I get more than 30,000 afs salary monthly and give 10,000 of it to poor people and the remaining is spent on my personal monthly expenses.”
He urged other people with better economic condition to help less fortunate persons in this critical situation.
He said only the government and aid providing NGOs could not support all poor and needy people, adding that common people should also come forward in supporting vulnerable persons and families.
Zuhra, a destitute woman, said: “It is true that the aid provided by different sources is not enough but if kind people like Dr. Iftikhar come forward and launch a campaign to support less fortunate people, it could be helpful to a greater extent.”
Zainab, another elderly lady and the beneficiary, said: “The aid provided by NGOs and other organizations is trivial compared to the level of poverty and problems faced by people, but if well off people followed in Dr. Iftikahar’s footsteps, it may help support a huge portion of vulnerable people in society.”
The rise in unemployment, poverty and drought are the main causes of the deteriorated economic situation of the people in Daikundi.
