PARAKH (Pajhwok): Two cases of lumpy skin virus have been registered in Parakh, the provincial capital and Anaba district of central Panjshir province, an official said on Tuesday.
Lumpy skin disease is a viral infection of cattle. Originally found in Africa, it has also spread to countries in the Middle East, Asia, and eastern Europe. Clinical signs include fever, lacrimation, hypersalivation, and characteristic skin eruptions.
Agriculture Director Hafiz Abdul Mojeeb Mushfiq told Pajhwok Afghan News one positive case of lumpy skin was registered in Parakh and one in Anaba district.
He said efforts are underway in areas where the lumpy skin case had been surfaced. Infected livestock are separated from health livestock and the places where animals are kept had been sprayed with anti-virus liquid.
He, however, said there was need for the vaccination of livestock and the matter had been shared with the centre.
