GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Paktia Agriculture and Irrigation Department will construct 60 water reservoirs in different districts of the province to help strengthen the irrigation system, an official said on Tuesday.
Provincial Agriculture Director Mawlavi Abdul Rauf Saeed told Pajhwok Afghan News: “We have launched the construction efforts of 60 water reservoirs in Gardez, the provincial capital, Sayed Karam and Ahmad Aba districts which will be completed in the next three months. These water sources will save the water for irrigation of agricultural lands.”
Saeed added that 18 million Afs will be spent on the construction of these water sources which will be provided Agriculture Department. These water sources will save rainwater for agriculture.
The government had a plan to build similar water sources in other districts of Paktia province too, he said.
Ali Mohammad, a local farmer from Saye Karam district told Pajhwok: “This is a fundamental step and it will save water from being wasted and it will be spent on irrigation.”
He added, there are many places where we can build water sources by spending a small amount of money asking the government to take more steps in this direction.
