TALOQAN CITY (Pajhwok): As many as 650 families in the Eshkamesh district of the northern Takhar province have been provided with clean drinking water facility, an official said on Monday.
Engineer Ehsanullah Gran, general director engineering service of the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department told Pajhwok Afghan News that the water supply project was funded by the United Nations Children’s fund (UNICEF).
Earlier, the residents of this area faced many challenges because of the none-availability of healthy and clean water.
Gran added that a tanker is set to transport clean water from a distance of 22 kilometers and distribute it to all 650 families to avoid diseases.
UNICEF Health Care Official Dr. Saleem Sameem stressed that the people must use healthy water during all seasons of the year and pay attention to their hygiene to avoid infection from different diseases.
The residents of Eshkamesh district were happy about the launch of water project.
Mohammad Ewaz told Pajhwok that they did not have access to clean water from the past several years and their children were getting sick because of the lack of healthy water.
The water supply project is implemented at a time when thousands of children inflicted diarrhea and cholera in Takhar province.
