Spin Boldak-Chaman road closed after floods emerge in Pakistan

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): The Spin Boldak-Chaman road has been closed due to flooding across the Durand Line in Pakistan, officials in southern Kandahar province say.

Haji Zaid, the spokesman of Kandahar governor, told Pajhwok the Spin Boldak-Chaman road was closed at around 3:00 p.m. today after floods emerged across the Durand Line.

He said the road would remain closed until the floodwater receded. “Huge floodwater on the Pakistani side in Chaman has made travel on the road difficult. The Pakistani side has closed the road and it will remain closed until the water is controlled.”

Residents of Spin Boldak district also confirmed the Spin Boldak-Chaman road was closed today and those wanted to cross the Friendship Gate had turned back.

Nazar Mohammad, a resident of Spin Boldak district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Spin Boldak-Chaman highway had been earlier damaged by floodwater and today it was blocked by the emergence of flooding.

Besides this, a dam breach in Toba Achakzai area of Chaman has made difficult the movement of vehicles.

Syed Rasoul ,who just returned from Quetta to Spin Boldak, told Pajhwok Afghan News flood water had damaged the highway at several points from Chaman to Quetta, leaving many vehicles stranded.

“The road was in very bad condition. The Toba dam has been broken, damaging the road in several places. It will be good if people do not travel on the road for a few days.”

A few days ago, an entire village was submerged in Shorabak district of the province after a dam across the Durand Line failed.
