Week-long search operation launched in Mazar-i-Sharif

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): A week-long search operation has been launched in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, to improve security, police said on Friday.

The general search operation was launched last night in all areas of the city and it will continue for a week, Balkh police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said.

The operation involved personnel from the intelligence, military and police headquarters, he said, adding that the operation was started by forming a commission whose purpose was only to ensure security.

The government previously conducted a house-to-house search in Kabul and several nearby provinces, confiscating weapons, ammunition and military equipment.
