KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan have thrashed Sri Lank by eight wickets in the Asia Cup opener at the Dubai Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
Afghanistan elected to bowl after winning the toss and bundled out the opposition for a meager 105.
For Sri Lanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa top-scored with a 29-ball 38, while Chamika Karunaratne chipped in with 31.
Afghanistan’s left-arm quickie Fazal Haq Farooqi took three wickets, with Mujeeb Rahman and Mohammad Nabi picking up two each, Naween-ul-Haq took one.
Afghanistan chased down the target in 10.1 overs, with Rahmanullah Gurbaz smashing 40 runs, while Hazratullah Zazai remained unbeaten on 37.
Afghanistan will play their second match of the tournament against Bangladesh at Shariah on August 30.
