KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan has released some of Afghan refugees, including women and children, after they were arrested for lacking legal stay documents in Karachi, the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad said on Friday.
In a tweet, the Afghan Embassy said Pakistani police had arrested about 300 Afghan refugees for not having documents.
The embassy and the Afghan consulate in Karachi were in contact with Pakistani authorities regarding the release of the Afghan refugees.
The embassy said each refugee was fined 1000 rupees by the court and released some of the detainees and the remaining would be released in coming days.
The source did not reveal how many refugees were released, but said some people wanted to take "personal benefit" and collect money in the name of the arrested Afghans.
