HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A number of girl students in western Herat province say they are concerned about the continued closure of schools and their uncertain future.
Shabnam, one of the 9th grade students in Fatha Girl High School, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they were worried what would be the consequence of the schools’ closure to her and other girls.
According to her, in current situation, she has no hope of fulfilling her dreams as a teenager.
She said the female students have lost their hopes for the future as the schools continued to be closed.
“There is no hope that I would be able to study or get the job that I dream for.”
Sitara, 15, one of the students of Mehr High School, grumbled over this policy of the Islamic Emirate and urged the people to advocate the rights of their children.
“Women are part of society and they are also human. If schools are closed to half of the society and we prevent their education, the society will be pushed towards darkness and ignorance,” she added.
Wahida Saghari, one of the teachers of girls school in Herat, said if a woman was literate the society would light up but there would be ignorance if the women were illiterate.
She asked the government to open the gates of the schools for girls above 6th grade.
Huma Barakzai, a social expert in Herat, said that educated women could play vital role in making their family members and society literate.
She said the closure of girls schools had created problems in the province as girls frustrated and disappointed.
Pajhwok tried to receive the views of local officials in this regard but after the wait of several days no one ready for the interview.
However, a large number of activists and girls inside and outside the country have held different campaigns to reopen schools for girls above the sixth grade.
They urged the caretaker government of Afghanistan to allow all girls to continue their education throughout the country in the earliest possible.
