Lal Sarjangal residents complain lack of drinking water facilities

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Some residents of Lal Wa Sarjangal district in western Ghor province have complained against the non-availability of drinking water facilities while officials claimed steps had been taken to address the issue.

Local residents complained due to drought and the non-availability of drinking water sources they had to travel a few kilometers to arrange drinking water from natural streams.

Mohammad, the resident of Orbagoch locality said they have no facility of drinking water in their village.

“I travel on a motorbike for up to three kilomtres to arrange drinking water, I am not alone doing this other people also complained against drinking water facility. Some women in our village travel by feet to bring drinking water,” he said.

Ali Zahir, the resident of Talkhak village said the lack of drinking water was a major issue for them.

“There is drought this year, all the natural streams had dried up, we bring drinking water from other places.”

The residents of Talkhak village asked local authorities to arrange a drinking water facility for them.

Zabihullah Ghosi, the spokesperson for the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, said: “As a result of drought water level in Ghor dropped and the lack of drinking water as a huge issue. We fully understand the problems faced by our people in this regard.”

He said they daily received letters from people regarding the issue of drinking water and efforts were on to address the issue in coordination with NGOs.

He said after the takeover of the Islamic Emirate, dozens of drinking water schemes had been implemented in different districts of Ghor province.
