Two youth establish public library in remote part of Daikundi

NEILI CITY (Pajhwok): Two youth in Sangi Takht district of central Daikundi province have established a library containing thousands of books in the remote Bandar village.

Abdul Hameed Mudabbir, one of the library founders, said he with the help of another youth collected 7,000 books from Kabul, Herat and Daikundi provinces during the last seven months and created the “Khatamun Nabiyeen Library”.

The books were about general knowledge, history, religious and political affairs and the aim of establishing the library was to encourage reading habits in remote parts of the province among the youth and students, Mudabbir said.

He added local residents welcomed the development because the Bandar area having over 90,000 populations had no library in the past.

KhudaBakhshMohammadiNejhad, co-founder of the library, said: “The goal of the library is to increase awareness level of people (men and women) and lay a better life foundation.”

Nejhad asked the government to pave the way for people’s knowledge which could help in reconstruction of Afghanistan.  He urged people to study because “the only way of development is to gain knowledge.”

Pajhwok asked local information and culture department officials for their comment, but they are yet to respond.

However, officials had previously said there were over 30 libraries in Daikundi province, but the number of readers was not satisfactory.
