AIBAK (Pajhwok): Work on four public welfare projects costing 16 million afghanis has been launched in northern Samangan province with the financial support of the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
Maulvi Akhtar Mohammad Mesbah, head of the rural rehabilitation and development, told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects included the digging of three water wells and repairing a drinking water network in Shahikhel, Baba Guljan, Shorabak and Rabatak districts, as well as Aibak.
The public welfare projects are being implemented in coordination with the rural rehabilitation department by ACTED. The schemes will be completed in three months at a cost of 1,646,000 afghanis provided by UNICEF.
He added at least 67 residents of the area wound be provided with work opportunities for a period of three months and 457 families would benefit from safe drinking water.
Mohammad Zarif, a resident of Gul Qeshlaq village in Aibak, expressed his happiness with the launch of the projects and told Pajhwok: “It’s a vital project for our village, because we don’t have access to safe drinking water.”
