After Kabul, house searches launched in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): After Kabul and other cities, security forces have launched house-to-house searches in southern Kandahar province aiming to tighten security, local officials said.

Haji Zaid, a senior media official of Kandahar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that security forces of different organs were participating in the operations which would cover all districts of the city and the province.

Zaid said the operations were aimed at improving security and had been launched with public consent.

Zaid said: “Women security personnel, local tribal elders and religious scholars are also accompanying the security forces during the operations and our demand from people is they should exercise restraint.”

He urged people to cooperate with security forces during the operations.

The residents of Kandahar asked the Taliban forces to treat people nicely and not to harass anyone during the house to house searches.

Mohammad Rasoul, a resident of the fifth district of Kandahar city, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “It is good that security forces are conducting search operations to track down suspected criminals, but the Taliban forces should treat the people in a good manner and not to cause any harassment”.

The people are asking security forces for good behavior after two women were killed and five people were injured by security forces during a house search after a verbal dispute with the family in Bost Qala area of Lashkargah city, the capital of neighboring Helmand province.
