JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The government has decided to establish a special security unit to counter the illegal mining and smuggling in eastern Nangarhar province, an official says.
Concerns over unlawful mining and smuggling of precious and semi-precious stones like nephrite, from Achin, Goshta, Kama and Sherzad districts had forced the government to set up a special unit for the stop the illegal practice.
Mufti Abdul Hameed Akhundzada, director of mines and petroleum, told Pajhwok Afghan News the government had approved the creation of a 70-member special unit to counter illegal excavation and prevent the smuggling of precious items.
