SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): Residents of the Kohistanat district and some villages who use the Nari Band tunnel for transportation complain about the deteriorated condition of the road.
The Public Works Department, however, says restoration work of the tunnel will start soon.
Bismillah, a resident of Kohistanat district, told Pajhwok Afghan News: "Nari Band Tunnel connects Kohistanat district and surrounding villages with Sar-i-Pul City. It is lengthy and is situated on a high altitude, passenger often get stuck inside the tunnel.”
He said that the government should restore this tunnel in a fundamental way to make it easier for people to travel.
Khalifa Nabi, one of the drivers, said: "The tunnel is too long and the road has not been repaired, passengers have to push the vehicles to pass through this tunnel."
He said that the tunnel remained closed in winter and asked the government to repair the road.
Maulvi Asadullah, head of Sar-i-Pul Public Works Department, confirmed people’s complaints and said: "Vehicles hardly pass through this tunnel in summer and it is blocked in winter."
He said restoration work of the tunnel will be started in near future and will be fundamentally constructed.
