KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) says new visa restrictions imposed by the US on Taliban members are not will not serve the interest of either side.
On Tuesday, US Secretary of State unveiled the new curbs on the issuance of visas for the current or former IEA members and others believed to be responsible for repressing women and girls in Afghanistan.
In reaction to the sanctions, IEA spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid slammed the sanctions as a violation of the Doha Agreement.
A private TV channel quoted Mujahid as saying: “The continuation of such sanctions neither benefits the US nor Afghanistan. It is also in violation of the Doha Agreement.”
The Biden administration should lift the sanctions and try to normalise bilateral relations between the two countries, TOLOnews quoted him as saying.
Taking issue with the sanctions, Human Rights Watch said the imposition of sanctions on immediate family members of the Islamic Emirate was unjust.
