KABUL (Pajhwok): Microsoft founder Bill Gates says he may meet ‘Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’ leaders if it helps the war-torn country get rid of polio.
In an interview with a British newspaper, the US billionaire “Honestly, I don’t know if there’s some sensitivity around that.”
The Telegraph quoted him as saying: “I would do pretty much anything to help the polio campaign there; it’s the Foundation’s top priority.”
The foundation’s allies had already met the Taliban in Qatar, Gates revealed, expressing his pleasure over the movement’s retention of the previous health minister.
Polio is still endemic in parts of Afghanistan, where a four-day vaccination campaign is ongoing, and neighbouring Pakistan.
