Nearly 14,000 acres of state-land usurped in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Officials in northern Baghlan province say about 13,992 acres of government land has been usurped and efforts are underway to reclaim it.

Mullah Alam Majidi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News in an exclusive interview that a joint committee comprising officials from the governor’s house, agriculture department, municipality and urban development department has been formed to wrest back the usurped government land.

He said the committee has so far made a list of 2,030 usurpers in the province. He did not name anyone, but added that during the past 20 years, about 13,992 acres of land was grabbed.

He said about 1,200 acres of land had been recovered so far and efforts were underway to recover the rest.

Mehrabuddin Bilal, director of agriculture, told Pajhwok that government’s agricultural, urban land and deserts had been usurped in Doshi, Nahrin, Borka districts and Pul-i-Khumri, the provincial capital.
