PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Residents of Kharwar and Azra districts of central Logar province say they take their patients to the provincial capital, Pul-i-Alam, or neighboring provinces for treatment due to lack health services in their towns.
Haji Mohammad Nasim, a resident of Kharwar district, told Pajhwok Afghan News that local residents lacked access to enough health services.
He said the district clinic lacked medicine and health workers and residents had to take their patients to Pul-i-Alam or neighboring provinces of Paktia and Ghazni for treatment.
“In the past, we were provided health services equal to nothing and the situation remains the same. There is a clinic but it lacks medicines and professional doctors. So the clinic is of no use.”
Similarly, Rahimullah, a resident of Azra district, complained that their district was ignored by both the previous and current governments.
He said there were no enough health services in Azra district and residents had to transfer their patients to Puli Alam and Nangarhar province for treatment.
He said the district’s only 30-bed hospital could not cater to the needs of all residents, urging the Ministry of Public Health to increase health services in districts.
Logar Public Health Director Maulvi Syed Rahman Qadri told Pajhwok Afghan News that after the current government’s coming to power, his department had speeded up its activities and health services were being provided to people in all districts.
He said a 30-bed hospital and two health centers were operational in Azra district and four health centers were active in Kharwar district, where a large hospital did not exist.
He acknowledged villages of several districts of Logar lacked health services, but the Ministry of Public Health had opened hospitals and health centers at district level.
Due to the wars in the past, residents of Azra and Kharwar districts were deprived of basic services concerning education, agriculture, health and rehabilitation.
