BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Some handicrafts producers in central Bamyan province have complained against the dwindling market for their products.
Zahra Kazami, a member of the handicraft Producers Association, told Pajhwok Afghan News handicrafts were the most attractive cultural element of the province which received a warm response in late years.
She said by the sale of handicraft products hundreds of women get jobs and receives money direct and indirectly through handicraft production.
Fatimah, one of the handicraft sellers, said the rate of handicraft sale and purchase has declined comparing to past months.
“Last year, our monthly average sale was up to 30,000 afs but currently we don’t have even up to 15,000 afs sale,” she said.
Naeem Rezae, deputy director of commerce and industry, said around 35 handicraft association had been registered in Bamyan.
He linked the decline in the handicraft market with the decline of local and foreign tourists in the country. He added with the arrival of winter season the number of tourists would further decline and this will also have its impact on the market of handicraft products.
