Pakistan, China agree to extend CPEC to Afghanistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Pakistan and China have acknowledged that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan would promote regional security and economic development.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is in China on an official visit, met with Chinese President Xi Jinping  at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.

Both leaders discussed various matters of mutual interest and agreed that CPEC’s extension to Afghanistan would strengthen regional connectivity initiatives.

They discussed key issues, pertaining to the region including the situation in Jamu and Kashmir and in Afghanistan, a statement released from Shehbaz’s office said.

The Pakistani PM also extended a warm invitation to President Xi for visiting Pakistan at an early date, which the later accepted graciously.

He congratulated President Xi on his reelection as General Secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The two leaders discussed cooperation across a range of issues, including defense, trade and investment, agriculture, health, education, green energy, science and technology and disaster preparedness.
