GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The 50-bed Covid-19 hospital in southern Paktia province on Thursday received food for patients and medical equipment worth 11 million afghanis.
Provided by CARE International, a leading humanitarian international NGO in Afghanistan, the aid includes advanced medical tools and food items for patients.
Paktia public health director Dr. Sadruddin Azam told Pajhwok: “The CARE organization today donated food and medical equipment worth 11 million afghanis to the coronavirus hospital.”
He said the medical equipment included oxygen cylinders, computers, examination machines, technical equipment for administrative rooms, generators and other things.
He said the donation would help resolve equipment shortage issue at the hospital.
Dr. Gul Mohammad, nursing manager at the hospital, told Pajhwok: “The Covid-19 hospital is newly established in Paktia and it lacked many medical and technical equipment, but now this problem has been solved.”
In the past, he said, some patients could not be treated due to lack of equipment. He hoped CARE and other NGOs would donate such medical supplies to the coronavirus hospital from time to time.
The special hospital for coronavirus patients in Paktia was established two years ago during the epidemic outbreak. Besides Paktika, patients with corona and respiratory diseases from neighboring provinces are also treated in the facility.
